My world of watercolour and flower painting started just over 16 years ago when I first met a local Artist, who taught me many watercolour techniques. I just love watercolour and I firmly believe that once armed with the techniques then work is produced as individual as your own handwriting. My local artist retired in 2001 and so I took over running her club in Chingford, London and I also ran one day watercolour workshops.

My paintings are mainly flowers and I love garden flowers, wild flowers, leaves and seeds. I live on the edge of Epping Forest and get my inspiration from my garden and the local area. Early summer is my special time ofd the year for flowers and the wild flowers are at their best then too. I love painting what some people might call weeds, especially Cow Parsley, Dandelion flowers and clocks .

As a general rule I first paint wet into wet and when that is dry I add detail and I paint on hot press art paper which has the smoothest of surfaces and use Artists Quality paints, most of which are the transparent colours therefore keeping work vibrant and fresh. For the wet into wet technique I mix my colours to a single cream consistency, wet the area and then drop in the paint making sure I leave highlights to add interest to the work. Just before it dries I may add the real dark shadows and when it is finally dry I add veins or flower markings. I try very hard to get the final result in one go as this leads to lovely fresh looking work.

Painting is the most wonderful hobby to have, it is so mind absorbing and very therapeutic, I thoroughly recommend it!

Pam Hi!
I have really enjoyed your paintings they are very beautiful. I've been painting since my husband passed away very suddenly 2 years ago and it has helped me a lot.
Hope to see more of your work soon.
Love Helen
Hi Helen ~ Lovely to hear from you ~ thank you so much.
You know I think we both have something very much in common and that is, 7 years ago I sadly lost my dear husband through a tragic accident and so like you ~ very sudden, such a shock.
I too found my art was fantastic in helping me cope. As I mentioned I run a club and run workshops, so it all had to continue and that was my saving grace I feel, as well as my faith of course.
Before answering you, I found your page and is that your artwork on your page? It is lovely and so full of life ~ there is lovely movement in those paintings ~ what medium are you using? is it acrylics? Keep painting and I will watch your page!
I hope we will be able to chat more soon ~ love Pam
These are lovely, Pam. I especially like the rose.
I agree with you about weeds. I grow wildflowers in my garden and I've been amazed to discover that flowers such as buttercups, daisies and evn clover (the most nutritious green manure on Earth) are regarded as weeds.

Smeagologists

Once someone asked me “What is a Smeagologist?” My reply was simply, “Whatever you want it to be!” Seeing as I invented the name, I think I have a right to decide that it be a neutral term that is based roughly upon one’s emergence in a society that is progressively reductionist and bordering on Nihilism on one side and Contemplation on the other, I prefer the Contemplative side but attend most vigorously to the other seeing as our pale blue dot is gradually disappearing and who knows one day…See More

I ask for your prayers.

On Wednesday my mother died. My sister and I were there. We prayed again with our mother. Then she fell asleep peacefully in the arms of my sister. Our pastor arrived a short time later. He spoke again the blessing over our mother. The funeral will be next Friday. I ask for your prayers for our mother and us, in this time of parting.See More
