Faith in Art Group at Meet inside entrance to Sainsbury Wing, National Gallery
May 22, 2009 from 6pm to 10pm
Guided tour to see paintings Peter talks about in the current Faith in Art series. Post-tour chance to chat together across the road in St Martin in the Fields church Crypt Cafe. All welcome.
There are some videos on this site of the lectures Peter gave during last Advent so you can see how good they are. He's brilliant, really gives an insight into how art developed and the group is a lovely - and growing - community.
Peter himself is a practising artist and also heavily into music and drama. Some members are artists, art historians, have written books on art, are art teachers. Some like me are ignoramuses dying to learn.
The next series is three lectures, one on each of the next three Tuesdays. Sandwiches and tea/coffee are provided free.
Also, we'll visit the National Gallery on Friday 22 May. Peter treats us all to dinner after that visit so anyone who wants to go to that needs to let him know in advance.
Thanks to poor Art teaching at school, I believed for 40 years that I had no talent for visual art. But Peter's Lent lectures last year got me started because I didn't think it fair to pass comment on artists' work when I didn't know how easy or difficult it was to produce any kind of artwork. I now sketch and love my pencils so much that I haven't got into paint much yet. But I can see that I will because I'm already intrigued by ideas about light and colour.
How about you?
Hello, Marie and welcome to the Art group. Have you seen the video of Peter Delaney's Advent art lectures? Well worth having a look at.
I don't know if you already attend the lunchtime lectures but the next series starts next Tuesday, 5 May. 1-2pm at St Stephen Walbrook.
We haven't started any discussions in the Art group on here yet so please feel free to start one or two of your own.
That is one of the big thoughts David. I like it. The reason is that I got stuck in the book of Galatians for a really long time and that part where Paul talks about them have a fresh image of Christ on the cross, really made me think. Here were Chr…
Just a few thoughts, totally my own opnion and open to be shot down:
I would have liked to have be a Christian soon after the Resurection when the experience of the Risen Lord was not yet made into an organisation. The early communities seemed to b…
There is a sad irony in this title, ... as Christians we can look forward in hope to a new creation, but as an anthem of mankind it lacks the contrast with evil. I think old Louis, had that in mind when he sang...almost tongue in cheek.. mmm?
Lately I have been thinking about the table of the Lord. Form in religion is something that I think should be a personal thing. Content however (the person of Jesus Christ) is foundational and the complete focus of the body of Christ. Just me.
