Today I was working in Victoria and took the opportunity to attend mass at Westminster Cathedral.

During mass we were asked to pray for those that decide who should live and who should die !

Although I am not saying we should not pray for these people, it just seems a very strange prayer request from the Bishop of the mother of Catholic churches within London.

There are, I am sure, more deserving causes and people to pray for. The nurses at Gt Ormond st.

My prayer for today is that all my friends, family, colleagues and acquaintances are safe and well.

Regards, as always

God bless

Eddie

I stand corrected

I think the prayer could have been meant for aid workers who find themselves in a terrible position. When there is an overwhelming disaster, such as the famines in Africa we are hearing about now,the sheer weight of numbers of those coming into camps can render it impossible for doctors and others to treat and feed enough of the needy in time to save all their lives. They can be haunted for years afterwards by the memories of having to select the ones they rescue.Making these choices must be among the worst anyone has to face. They definitely need our prayers.

I guess the prayer was meant for doctors and nurses as well as relatives who have to decide when a life support machine is turned off.

Smeagologists

Once someone asked me “What is a Smeagologist?” My reply was simply, “Whatever you want it to be!” Seeing as I invented the name, I think I have a right to decide that it be a neutral term that is based roughly upon one’s emergence in a society that is progressively reductionist and bordering on Nihilism on one side and Contemplation on the other, I prefer the Contemplative side but attend most vigorously to the other seeing as our pale blue dot is gradually disappearing and who knows one day…See More

I ask for your prayers.

On Wednesday my mother died. My sister and I were there. We prayed again with our mother. Then she fell asleep peacefully in the arms of my sister. Our pastor arrived a short time later. He spoke again the blessing over our mother. The funeral will be next Friday. I ask for your prayers for our mother and us, in this time of parting.See More
